UN and OECD experts to conduct global assessment of Kazakhstan's statistical system
Experts from the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) have launched the Global Assessment of the National Statistical System of Kazakhstan, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of Kazakhstan
The purpose is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the institutional, legal and methodological foundations of the national statistical office and other state bodies for the production of official statistics, as well as to determine the country's need for statistical capacity building," the report says.
During the week, the experts held a number of meetings with the leadership of the Bureau of National Statistics and representatives of state and local executive bodies, as well as various groups of users of statistical information (universities, research and international organizations).
Experts discussed the institutional framework, organizational structure of the national statistical system, including issues of methodology, quality, production and dissemination of statistics.
"Such assessments are carried out every 5 years. The Bureau sent a request to UNECE and received confirmation that the next round of the Global Assessment would be held this year. For several days, international experts carried out relevant work to collect the necessary information and materials to assess the current state of statistics in Kazakhstan in accordance with generally accepted international standards of the United Nations and the European Code of Statistics.
Based on the results of the assessment, the team of experts will present a final Report with practical recommendations on all the main components of the national statistical system," says Zhandos Shaimardanov, head of the Bureau of National Statistics.
