Training of specialists in field of artificial intelligence developing in Kazakhstan
In 2023, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to establish cooperation with leading international companies and focus on training qualified specialists, El.kz reports with reference to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
One of the key tasks was to create conditions for training personnel and conducting research in the field of artificial intelligence. Already in 2024, at least three universities have begun to fulfill this task.
To develop human resources in the digital economy, Kazakhstan has established cooperation with transnational companies such as Google, Nvidia, Coursera, 01 Edu System and Huawei.
At the moment, 15 domestic universities have implemented Google's courses on artificial intelligence, and 12,000 students are already participating in the Generative AI project.
In collaboration with NVIDIA, 12 universities are participating in the DLI project, 12 certified ambassadors will receive NVIDIA certification, and one faculty member has already successfully earned DLI certification from NVIDIA.
Memorandums of cooperation were also signed with such large companies as Coursera, Huawei Technologies Kazakhstan LLP and Binance Kazakhstan. As part of these agreements, Huawei ICT Academy was established on the basis of 35 universities, where students take certified courses from Huawei. Thanks to the support of Binance Kazakhstan, about 350 ICT teachers from 22 universities have been trained in blockchain technologies.
To date, about 102 Coursera courses have been translated into Kazakh and Russian, and in 2024, 40 thousand licenses were allocated to students from 93 universities. These students have gained access to more than 20 thousand online courses, including 4,200 courses on artificial intelligence from the world's leading universities and professors. To involve students in IT projects, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between INSHE and Amazon to participate in the OpenSearch project.
In addition, work is underway on cooperation with 01 EduSystem, aimed at opening innovative programming schools in 20 regional universities of the country. The pilot project will be Yessenov University. Within the framework of the project, a new form of education has also been introduced - online learning.
The digital ecosystem in Kazakhstan's universities is actively developing: all educational institutions are connected to LMS platforms such as Platonus, Univer and Moodle. To date, more than 2000 students are studying in 15 educational programs in the field of artificial intelligence. Within the framework of the Bolashak program, it is planned to allocate 100 scholarships annually for the training of specialists in this field.
