Swedish Parliament highlights growing interest in cooperation with Kazakhstan

The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Sweden, Olzhas Suleimenov, held a meeting with the Chair of the Sweden–Central Asia Friendship Group of the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament), Björn Söder, and Swedish MP Markus Wiechel,El.kz cites MFA.

The meeting focused on a broad spectrum of bilateral cooperation issues, with particular emphasis on strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, deeping dialogue within the Friendship Group, fostering collaboration between Kazakh and Swedish parliamentarians within international platforms such as the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and enhancing trade and economic relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Suleimenov highlighted that Kazakhstan’s new economic course, initiated by President Tokayev, which focuses on economic diversification, fostering innovation, and attracting investments, offers vast opportunities for Kazakh-Swedish cooperation.

In turn, Swedish parliamentarians emphasized the strategic importance of Central Asia and Kazakhstan, underscoring the great potential for expanding multifaceted collaboration with the region and increasing the active presence of Swedish companies in Kazakhstan.

In this regard, the participants commended the success of the business seminar held in June this year in the Swedish Parliament, which was dedicated to exploring investment opportunities in Central Asia.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their readiness to further deepen inter-parliamentary cooperation, strengthen dialogue within international parliamentary institutions, and outlined plans for several joint events to be held next year.
