Swan Lake to be performed at Astana Opera’s Grand Hall
Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s iconic ballet Swan Lake, a symbol of academic ballet art that combines landmark music and distinctive choreography, will be performed at Astana Opera’s Grand Hall on January 18 and 19, El.kz cites astanaopera.kz.
On January 18, the opera house’s principal dancer, Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Aigerim Beketayeva, will perform the roles of Odette, the gentle Swan Queen, and Odile, her alluring opposite. The ballet company soloist Dias Kurmangazy, who will present Prince Siegfried, will be paired with her.
On January 19, debuts of young soloist Sofiya Adilkhanova as Odette-Odile and her partner, the ballet company dancer Erkin Bazarbaev, as the Prince, await the audience. Preparation for these parts is a real test for the dancers, requiring well-honed technique, acting skills and partnership.
“Swan Lake also requires full dedication. The ballerina must gracefully convey the movements of the swan, without forgetting all the difficult classical positions. This is quite an arduous experience, which improves with each performance,” Sofiya Adilkhanova shared.
The story the production is based on is created on an old German legend of Princess Odette, turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer. Only love and loyalty can break the spell, but betrayal will condemn her to eternal captivity in the form of a bird.
The choreographic version of Swan Lake was presented by the artistic director of the ballet company, People’s Artist of Russia Altynai Asylmuratova. Her version premiered during the opera house’s tour to the Royal Opera House Muscat in 2017. Since then, the production has invariably delighted the audience and is always sold out.
“This ballet is timeless. Our predecessors enjoyed it, and our descendants will admire it,” Altynai Asylmuratova noted. The opera house’s Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Arman Urazgaliyev will provide the musical accompaniment.
