Remote workers increased by 19% in Kazakhstan

The number of remote workers in Kazakhstan has increased by almost 19% compared to last year, El.kz reports citing ranking.kz.
According to data for the fourth quarter of 2024, 46.7 thousand people work remotely in the country. A year earlier, the growth was only 5.4%, which indicates a gradual increase in interest in the remote format. However, in the total structure of the employed population of Kazakhstan, their share remains extremely low - only 0.51% (in 2023 - 0.44%).
The leader in the number of remote workers was the Aktobe region - 11.3 thousand people are registered here, which is 2.46% of the total employed population of the region. This is followed by the Zhetysu region (2.33%) and the Mangystau region (1.89%).
At the same time, in Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda and East Kazakhstan regions, not a single remote employee is officially registered, which indicates a significant gap between the regions in terms of the level of digitalization of the labor sphere.
In Kazakhstan, according to analysts, the key barriers to the development of remote work remain insufficient digital infrastructure, the specifics of labor regulation and the structure of employment in the economy, where the offline sphere still occupies a large share.
