Public health professionals from 8 countries in WHO European Region gather in Astana
The courses of the European Bureau of the World Health Organization (WHO) on successful management skills in the organization of health care have started in Astana. The event brings together public health professionals from eight countries in the WHO European Region, including Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The courses will last until July 12 and are aimed at strengthening the leadership potential of healthcare professionals, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The WHO European Programme of Work 2020–2025 has developed a training course to support the exchange of experience and strengthen the leadership capacity of public health professionals. . This is necessary to address the multiple crises faced by European countries, including Central Asia and the CIS, such as armed conflicts, population displacement, climate change, over-urbanization, the energy crisis, socio-economic inequalities, the spread of false information, and the physical and mental fatigue of health workers. In addition, the emergence of new and re-emergence of known infectious diseases, as well as the increasing trend in their prevalence, are of additional concern.
"The COVID-19 pandemic has clearly demonstrated the importance of international cooperation and the training of qualified specialists in the field of public health. Participation in this course is not only an opportunity to learn about the world's best practices, but also to develop practical policy-making skills, as well as to contribute to the creation of an innovative network of young public health professionals at the international level," said Vice Minister of Health Yerbol Ospanov.
The program of the courses in Astana includes intensive training and exchange of experience between participants aimed at developing management and strategic planning skills that will allow them to effectively respond to the challenges facing public health in today's environment.
"In recent decades, the world has faced numerous challenges that undermine the undeniable progress towards a more prosperous and healthy future for all. As a result of the relationship between health and environmental sustainability and social change, the importance of effective public health leadership is increasing. Throughout the course, several critical topics will be addressed, including public health problems at the global and regional levels, their causes and solutions, as well as ways of interagency cooperation," said Skender Syla, the WHO representative and Head of Office of WHO Country Office in Kazakhstan.
