Prospects for cooperation with Kazakhstan in field of food security discussed in African Union Commission

Ambassador of Kazakhstan, Permanent Representative to the African Union Barlybay Sadykov held a meeting with the Commissioner of the African Union for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Development Josefa Leonel Correia Sacko, El.kz cites MFA.

During the conversation, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of sustainable development and green economy. Interlocutors paid special attention to cooperation in the field of food security, development of agricultural sciences, as part of the efforts of the African Union to achieve the Goals of Sustainable Development and hunger eradication.

In particular, the role of Kazakhstan in the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) was noted, as well as the implementation of the African Initiative on Food Security (AIFS) and the Year of Africa in IOFS within its framework this year.

The Ambassador of Kazakhstan, referring to the statement of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the Global Summit on Food Security in September this year in New York, stressed Kazakhstan's intention to continue using its agricultural potential to combat global food shortages, and to act as a reliable supplier of grain and other basic types of food, including to fight hunger. In this context, the Ambassador suggested that the African Union Commission work together with the IOPB in this direction.

In addition, problems related to climate change and the structural vulnerability of food systems were discussed. The parties noted that Kazakhstan, as an international transit hub, is able to build global sustainable supply chains.

 It was said about the need to pay more attention to the development of transit and transport routes connecting Kazakhstan with the seaports of Africa. The parties paid special attention to the transit and transport potential of Kazakhstan, including within the framework of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.

In general, the Commissioner of the African Union expressed interest in the joint implementation of projects in these areas and suggested moving on to their detailed study.
