President of Kazakhstan expresses condolences over death of Pope Francis

The Head of State expressed his deep sorrow following the news of Pope Francis's death, El.kz reports with reference to Aqorda.

In his statement, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed gratitude for personal meetings with the pontiff and recalled his historic apostolic visit to Kazakhstan in 2022. The President called this event historic and symbolic for strengthening tolerance and interfaith harmony.

Pope Francis was a consistent supporter of humanism, justice and mercy. He will forever remain in our memory as a shepherd of peace and a man who devoted his life to strengthening spiritual harmony," Tokayev wrote.

Pope Francis died on April 21, 2025 at the Vatican. His pontificate is remembered for his desire for reforms, the protection of vulnerable segments of the population and dialogue between religions. In Kazakhstan, his visit was an important milestone in the history of interreligious cooperation.
