Over 300 refugees find asylum in Kazakhstan

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, 301 refugees and 265 asylum seekers live in Kazakhstan,El.kz reports

All foreign nationals who have been granted asylum in Kazakhstan are provided with State protection under the country's international obligations, including the provisions of the 1951 United Nations Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, to which Kazakhstan acceded on 15 December 1998.

Legal regulation is carried out on the basis of the Law "On Refugees", which includes key principles:

– prohibition of expulsion,

– the availability of the procedure for obtaining the status,

– non-discrimination,

–confidentiality

- unity of the family,

– protection of children's rights.

Most refugees and asylum seekers live in Almaty and the Almaty region.

On the territory of Kazakhstan, they have the right to:

– medical care within the guaranteed volume of free medical care,

– targeted social assistance,

– labor and entrepreneurial activities without the need to obtain permits from akimats,

– access to education – from preschool to higher.

Refugees can also apply for permanent residence and citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In this case, they do not need a police clearance certificate from their country of origin.
