Nutcracker in Yuri Grigorovich’s choreography to be presented at Astana Opera
At the numerous requests of the audience, Tchaikovsky’s legendary ballet The Nutcracker in Yuri Grigorovich’s choreography will be presented at Astana Opera on February 21, 22 and 23, El.kz cites astanaopera.kz.
There are many productions of this celebrated ballet in Kazakhstan and around the world, but it is Yuri Grigorovich’s version that is recognized as the benchmark. It remains the epitome of high art, which true connoisseurs of classical art strive for. The Astana Opera Ballet, led by world ballet star Altynai Asylmuratova, has long been famous for its professionalism not only in the country, but also abroad. It is not surprising that the company has repeatedly been invited to perform this work at Dubai Opera, where the production invariably received enthusiastic praise from the viewers.
Even though the New Year holidays are already behind us, the Kazakh audience’s interest in this ballet does not fade. The sets and costumes, recently returned from the sunny Emirates, will once again adorn the stage of the capital’s opera house, giving viewers the opportunity to prolong the festive mood.
The sets and costumes by the outstanding theatrical designer Simon Virsaladze give the production a truly magical atmosphere. Bright colours, interesting details and symbolism turn the performance into a real winter fairy tale.
The audience will be able to enjoy the mastery of Astana Opera’s principal dancers. Honoured Workers of Kazakhstan Aigerim Beketayeva, Bakhtiyar Adamzhan and Yerkin Rakhmatullayev will take the stage on different days. Young soloists, international competitions laureates Shugyla Adepkhan, Sofiya Adilkhanova, Dias Kurmangazy, as well as corps de ballet dancers will also demonstrate their talents.
“This production was created in the best traditions of classical ballet, which is probably why it is so loved all over the world. The recent tour to Dubai gave us experience and positive emotions. It was interesting to watch how the audience in another country experiences and admires this story. However, returning home and performing it in front of the Kazakh audience is always especially exciting – our viewers feel it in their hears, can start applauding as soon as this or that scene delights them, and this gives us energy for the entire performance,” Sofiya Adilkhanova said.
