Number of canteens and restaurants increased in Kazakhstan

The number of catering services continues to grow in Kazakhstan. In 2023, 15,826 eating establishments were registered, which is 4.5% more compared to 2022, when their number was 15,146 units,El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Bureau of national statistics of the Agency for strategic planning and reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The growth in the number of restaurants is especially noticeable. In 2023, there were 2,303 of them, which exceeds the number of 2022 (2,106). Canteens also show positive dynamics: their number increased from 4,752 to 5,383 units.

Against the backdrop of the overall growth of restaurants and canteens, the number of cafes showed the opposite trend, decreasing from 5,016 units in 2022 to 4,479 in 2023.

In terms of regions, the largest number of restaurants is concentrated in the cities of Astana (400 units), Almaty (351 units) and Turkestan region (213 units). The most number of  cafes are registered in the cities of Almaty (508 units), Astana (385 units) and Karaganda region (464 units).

The volume of services provided in the field of public catering in 2023 amounted to 1.1 trillion tenge, which is 11.9% higher compared to 2022.
