A new street named after the Hungarian poet was opened in Astana.

As part of the official visit of the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban to the Republic of Kazakhstan, one of the streets of the Kazakh capital was named after the famous Hungarian national poet Sándor Petőfi, El.kz reports with reference to the Kazakh MFA.

The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Szijjarto.

In his speech, the Kazakh Foreign Minister noted that Kazakhstan and Hungary have long-standing historical ties, and this important initiative gave an additional impetus to deepening and bringing cultural and humanitarian cooperation to new frontiers.

"Naming the street after the Hungarian national poet in the year of his 200th birthday is symbolic and will play a great role in strengthening friendly relations, as well as developing cultural exchange between our countries," Nurtleu said

In turn, P. Szijjártó expressed his deep gratitude to the Government of Kazakhstan for the honor shown to the Hungarian poet. "Today we see a sign of the deep respect of the Kazakh people for Hungary. Sándor Petőfi was a man of genius, known for his passion for freedom, and this sense of freedom is inherent in you," the Hungarian minister stressed.

Sándor Petőfi is an outstanding cultural figure, national poet and active fighter for the independence of Hungary. He made a huge contribution to the establishment of an independent democratic Hungary. His works are widely known all over the world and have been translated into many languages.
