Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation preparing 2nd phase Northern Aral Sea Restoration Project
The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, together with the World Bank, is preparing the second phase of the project to preserve the North Aral Sea. El.kz reports.
The project consists of three main components. The first is the development of infrastructure and improvement of the hydrological condition of the Northern Aral Sea and the delta of the Syr Darya River. The second is to support a stable economic, social and environmental situation in the Kyzylorda region. The third is the renewal of the information base and water management systems.
"As a result of the first stage of the project, the Kok Aral dam was built, and the volume of water in the Northern Aral Sea reached 27.1 billion cubic meters. The second phase is designed to improve water management, help develop fisheries and ecotourism, improve the environmental condition of the region and increase the volume and efficiency of water storage in the North Aral Sea," said Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
