Memorandum of Cooperation and Astana Communiqué: 2nd meeting of Central Asian Transport Ministers
On August 8, 2024, the Second Meeting of the Ministers of Transport of the Central Asian countries was held in Astana, timed to coincide with the upcoming VI Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the region. The event was attended by representatives of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan,El.kz reports.
The meeting focused on the development of transit corridors, the improvement of rail and road transport, as well as the expansion of the air transport network. The ministers noted the importance of policies to develop transport connectivity, which includes the construction of new roads and railways, as well as the creation of new and expansion of existing international air routes. Following the event, the Astana Communiqué was signed, which recorded the intentions of the parties to continue and deepen cooperation.
In addition, the meeting participants signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at creating favorable conditions for attracting investment, developing transport infrastructure and improving the legal framework governing the activities of transport and logistics centers. This document was a logical continuation of the Agreement on Strengthening Land Transport Connectivity in Central Asia, signed in 2023 in Dushanbe.
The delegation visited the Electric Locomotive Assembly Plant in Astana, where the guests got acquainted with the production capabilities of the domestic locomotive industry. The meeting participants also took part in a solemn meeting organized by the Ministry in honor of the Day of Road Workers.
