Kazakhstan's first cybersecurity course launched in East region

The first cybersecurity training course in Kazakhstan aimed at improving the digital literacy of students and teachers has started in the East Kazakhstan region, El.kz reports with reference to Polisia.kz.

The innovative educational project "Cybertron" was developed by specialists of the Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University in cooperation with the Police Department of East Kazakhstan region, the regional prosecutor's office and the internal policy department of the region.

Darkhan Kamalkhanov, Head of the Department for Combating Cybercrime, noted that over 20 thousand cases of Internet fraud are recorded annually in Kazakhstan, and in 2024, the total amount of funds returned to victims amounted to 1.4 billion tenge. The introduction of the training course will increase the level of legal awareness of the population and strengthen the fight against cybercrime.

Iryna Rovnyakova,East Kazakhstan University Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Cooperation, stressed the importance of training digital volunteers who will share knowledge about cyber threats with a wider audience. In today's world, digital threats are constantly evolving, and young people must be prepared for these challenges.

The first lesson was held in the format of an open lecture, during which Nurai Arystanbek told students about key types of cyber threats, including social engineering, artificial intelligence attacks, spoofing and malware. Among the main recommendations for Internet users, the expert highlighted the need to regularly update the operating system, install antivirus software and use complex passwords.
