Kazakhstan to send humanitarian aid to Afghanistan
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kanat Tumysh met with Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security Yerlan Baydaulet, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Kanat Tumysh stressed that Kazakhstan attaches particular importance to the issue of strengthening food security in the space of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation with a total population of more than 1.7 billion people. That is why Kazakhstan has become the initiator of the creation of the IOFS, actively helps to expand the membership of the Organization and intends to continue active work in this direction.
The Deputy Minister also noted the importance of fully using the potential of the IOFS in the context of the changing geopolitical situation in the world and the emergence of new threats to food security.
Yerlan Baydaulet informed about the results and current activities of the IOFS, the work plans of the Secretariat in 2023. The parties discussed issues of further development of the Organization, including in the framework of interaction with regional organizations and forums in the OIC space.
Particular attention was paid to the implementation of projects aimed at providing humanitarian assistance, including the food security program of Afghanistan, sending a humanitarian convoy to Afghanistan with the funds of Kazakhstan allocated to assist this country.
Kanat Tumysh also thanked E. Baydaulet for the assistance provided in the delivery of Kazakhstani humanitarian aid to Syria, which suffered from a devastating earthquake. According to the instruction of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, assistance in the form of food, warm clothes, tents and bedding with a total weight of 50 tons was transferred by the leadership of the IOFS to the authorized representatives of Syria in Aleppo with the assistance of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Lebanon and the Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Syria.
The parties agreed to intensify cooperation with Kazakhstan's support for the Secretariat's efforts to achieve the goals and objectives of the IOFS.
