Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Nurzhigitov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Kazakhstan Jun Yamada. The parties discussed potential cooperation in the development of the domestic water industry, El.kz reports with reference to the department.

The ambassador noted that the creation of a separate ministry dealing with the use and management of water resources is a very important and correct step that should become an example for other states.

Mr. Yamada also stressed that Japan is interested in long-term and full-scale cooperation with Kazakhstan, and Japanese companies working in the field of water technologies want to implement projects in our country. In particular, in the field of water reuse. The ambassador expressed readiness to assist in establishing contacts between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Japanese businessmen.

Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, in his turn, noted that the Ministry is interested in the Japanese experience in automation and digitalization of the water industry, and also proposed to work together to improve the skills of Kazakh specialists by attracting experts and scientists from Japan.

In addition, the minister said that Kazakhstan is interested in technologies for cleaning water bodies, citing the example of the successful cleaning of Lake Biwa, the largest in Japan. Nurzhan Nurzhigitov also proposed to involve Japanese oceanographers in working with the Research Institute of the Caspian Sea.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue discussing possible areas of cooperation.

"International cooperation is one of the main areas of work of our ministry. However, we are trying to establish ties not only with our neighbours, but also with other countries. Adopt their experience, implement joint projects, and introduce modern technologies. We hope that our cooperation with Japan will be strong and productive," Nurzhan Nurzhigitov said.
