Kazakhstan to host IBO-2024 for first time

Deputy Prime Minister Tamara Duissenova chaired the meeting on issues of organizing the intellectual competition "IBO-2024",El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Government.

During 28 years, Kazakh students  won over 70 medals at the International Biology Olympiad including 2 gold, 20 silver, 54 bronze medals.

According to Vice Minister of Education Yedil Ospan, in the current tournament, the honor of the country will be defended by 4 gifted students.

"The International Olympiad in the capital will gather 305 students and 275 leaders from 81 countries. In accordance with the requirements of the competition, organizational and scientific committees were formed, a website www.ibo2024.kz was created. At the expense of sponsorship funds, equipment and devices for conducting theoretical and practical tours were purchased. During the Olympiad, more than 80 volunteers will provide support," said Yedil Ospan.

In addition to the main intellectual tournament, a tour of the sights of the capital and the Akmola region is organised for the participants.

Noting the importance of the international event, Tamara Duissenova gave a number of instructions on its organization to the responsible state bodies.

"Holding the Olympiad in Kazakhstan shows the high level of knowledge of our students. It is necessary to create all the conditions. I instruct to ensure compliance with all sanitary standards in the places of stay of the participants and venue of the Olympiad, pay special attention to ensuring road safety when transporting children," said Tamara Duissenova.
