In the international environmental efficiency rating for 2022, which assesses the environmental situation and the sustainability of ecosystems, Kazakhstan ranked 92nd among 178 countries. The country was assigned an index of 40.9, which reflects the level of performance in the field of ecology. This index takes into account factors such as ecosystem health, the state of the environment and climate impacts, El.kz reports citing Finprom.

Denmark, the United Kingdom and Finland topped the ranking, while India ranked last on the list.

In the context of the CIS countries, Kazakhstan is located approximately in the middle of the ranking. Among the post-Soviet countries, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia and Moldova demonstrate higher indicators of environmental efficiency. At the same time, the worst indicators are observed in Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.

In January-October of this year, capital investments aimed at environmental protection in Kazakhstan reached 173.5 billion tenge, which is 2.4 times more in money than a year earlier.

Capital investments in environmental protection this year were observed only in 10 out of 20 regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan (against 17 in the same period a year earlier).

73.8% of all funds allocated for environmental protection were the enterprises' own funds: 128.1 billion tenge — 4.2 times more than a year earlier.

Non-bank loans accounted for 39.5 billion tenge (plus 5.4% over the year), bank loans — 5.7 billion tenge (y-o-y growth — 3.4 times), budget funds — 195.2 million tenge (minus 93.5%).
