Kazakhstan and US expand cooperation in energy sector

Kazakh Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev held meetings with Secretary for the US Department of Energy Chris Wright within the framework of the international conference CERAWeek 2025 in Houston, where the parties considered the prospects for cooperation in the energy sector, El.kz reports.
The meeting focused on the development of the Strategic Energy Dialogue (SED), attracting American investment and technology to projects at Tengiz, Karachaganak, and Kashagan, as well as diversifying Kazakhstan's oil export routes.
During the talks, the ministers discussed the prospects for cooperation in the field of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the development of renewable energy sources, cooperation in the field of civil nuclear energy and the extraction of critical materials.
Kazakhstan expressed interest in studying the American experience in the development and operation of small modular reactors, which could become a promising solution for sustainable energy supply.
The Kazakh side stressed the importance of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route as a strategic direction for oil exports and expressed hope for US support in the development of infrastructure for the transportation of energy resources.
The issue of the impact of international sanctions on the stability of Kazakh oil supplies to world markets was also touched upon.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their interest in further deepening energy cooperation and expanding joint projects, stressing the importance of cooperation for ensuring global energy security and sustainable development.
