The Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan has updated the assessment matrix of the epidemiological situation - now, instead of the average daily morbidity per 100 thousand population, the number of hospitalized in a day per 100 thousand population will be taken into account when assessing the epidemiological risk, El.kz reports.

"Since July 15, the Ministry of Health has updated the matrix for assessing the epidemiological situation, in which the average daily morbidity rate for seven days per 100,000 population has been revised by the daily rate of hospitalized per 100,000 population," Health Minister Azhar Giniyat said at a briefing on Friday.

She explained that the recommendations of the World Health Organization were taken into account in terms of assessing the current epidemic situation, taking into account the burden on the health care system.

"This depends on the level of hospitalization in infectious diseases hospitals and intensive care units, the level of vaccination coverage of the population, the prevalence of infection and circulating variants of coronavirus infections," Giniyat said.

Thus, the regions are in the "green" zone with the occupancy of beds up to 2,500 patients, regardless of the reproductive number R, in the "yellow" zone - with the occupancy of beds up to 5,000 patients, with an R indicator of more than 1 and with the occupancy of beds from 5,000 to 10,000 patients and an R indicator of less than 1; in the "red" zone - with the occupancy of beds from 5,000 patients and the R indicator is more than 1 and with the occupancy of beds more than 10,000 patients, regardless of the prevalence of morbidity.

As Giniyat noted, with beds occupancy of up to 5,000 patients, but with a reproductive R number of less than 1, when the prevalence is lower, but patients are in the hospital, "this zone is considered prosperous," and with beds occupancy of more than 10,000 patients, regardless of the prevalence of morbidity, "this already suggests that the situation is very difficult."

"Despite the fact that the incidence can be high, today almost 90% of patients are on inpatient treatment. At the same time, the lethality is very low, reduced today to zero. Taking into account all epidemiological and clinical indicators, today the matrix has been revised, and in the future, taking into account the distribution of this type of Covid-19 "Omicron", we will now use this matrix," the minister said.

She also said that during the transition to the "yellow" zone, additional measures will be taken aimed at localizing the source of infection and strengthening behavioral factors, without burdening business. These measures have already been developed and will be discussed at the next meeting of the Interdepartmental Comission. When moving to the "red" zone, in addition to the measures taken in the "yellow" zone, restrictions will be imposed on the movement of the population and the activities of business entities in two stages, depending on the load on the hospital and primary health care.
