Kazakh PM on restoration works: Target set by Head of State should be fulfilled in time

The issues of restoration of social facilities and infrastructure, as well as construction and purchase of housing for flood victims were considered at the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, El.kz cites primeminister.kz.

The heads of the Ministries of Industry and Construction, Education, Healthcare, Energy, Transport, akims of a number of regions reported on the progress of work to eliminate the consequences.

For the owners of 8,650 houses recognised as emergency, new housing is being purchased on the secondary market or houses are being built. According to Minister of Industry and Construction Kanat Sharlapayev, 2,569 new houses are under construction, of which 619 are already fully ready. The foundations of 2,431 houses have been erected, walls have been built in 2,207 houses, and roofs have been installed on 2,007 objects. Of the 9,189 properties to be repaired, work has been completed in 8,939 houses (97%). Of the 6,081 houses or flats planned to be bought, 4,918 have already been bought (81%).

Prime Minister noted that despite the active work to eliminate the consequences of floods and restore the property of citizens, facts of lagging behind the approved schedules are recorded.

"The task set by the Head of State on timely provision of housing to those affected by floods should be fulfilled in time. Necessary decisions have been taken by the Republican Headquarters, funding has been allocated in full. It is necessary to mobilise all resources and intensify the work," Olzhas Bektenov stressed.

Head of the Government was also reported on the progress of work to restore social facilities. As a result of floods, 40 educational institutions with about 11 thousand children in 6 regions of the country were affected. Active restoration works are also being carried out in this area. In Aktobe region capital and current repairs are being carried out at 8 facilities.

6.2 billion tenge has been allocated from the reserve of the Government for the construction of 6 new educational institutions. In Atyrau region, repair work on 6 facilities is 50% complete. In addition, construction of a kindergarten and a school has begun. In West Kazakhstan region it is planned to complete the current repair of 4 objects by 1 September. In North Kazakhstan region out of 5 flooded educational institutions 3 are ready for the beginning of the school year. Renovation works in educational institutions of Akmola and Kostanay regions are being completed. In these regions, 6 facilities were affected, one of which will be demolished and a new building will be built in its place.

In addition, 8 medical centres were affected in the regions. Construction of three of them is carried out under the Modernisation of Rural Health Care programme. Another three facilities require current and capital repairs, and a new building is planned to be constructed in place of one facility.

As of today, the works on 102 sections of the republican highways have been fully completed. The gas transmission infrastructure facilities are operating in the normal mode.

The Ministry of Industry and Construction together with akimats have been instructed to ensure coordination and control at construction sites until all works are completed.
