Kanat Bozumbayev checks Atyrau region's readiness for upcoming floods
Deputy Prime Minister visited Zhylyoi and Makhambet districts, the cities of Kulsary and Atyrau, inspected the work on protection of settlements from high water, El.kz cites primeminister.kz.
In Zhylyoi district the banks of Kamyskol lake are being strengthened. Deepened 23 km of the riverbed of the river Zhem and 35 km of the channel Kursai. More than 100 units of equipment are involved in the objects.
In Kulsary Kanat Bozumbayev met with residents and inspected the quality of housing built for flood victims.
In Makhambet district - checked the bank protection works along the river Zhaiyk. In the village Makhambet strengthen the bank length of 4.5 km. Completed construction of a bridge between the villages of Makhambet and Sarytogai. Repair of the intra-settlement road is underway.
In Atyrau, protective dams are being built in the suburban villages of Talgairan, Akzhar and Erkinkala. In Almaly village, 5.6 km of dams along the Saryozek canal are being strengthened, and new bank protection structures 2.5 km long are being built along the river.
Work continues on cleaning and widening the Gogolev Canal, which is a key link between the Zhaiyk River, the Sokolok Canal and the Caspian Sea. Dredging works are carried out with a total length of 30 km, with a channel width of 18 metres and depth of 2 metres. To date, work has already been completed on a 9.5 kilometre section.
Since the beginning of the flood season, dredging of the mouth of the Zhaiyk River at its confluence with the Caspian Sea has been underway. The total length of the planned works is 10 kilometres, of which 9.5 kilometres have been completed to date.
The work of the new flood forecasting and modelling system ‘Tasqyn’, which was developed on the instructions of the Head of State and will be launched by the end of the year, was also demonstrated.
"According to Kazgidromet, winter is expected to be warm, there will be a lot of snow, so we need to take all measures in advance, to take into account all possible scenarios. We need to increase the pace: transfer contracting organisations to two shifts, attract additional forces and equipment. Ministry for Emergency Situations to take control and monitor all flood control measures in the region," Kanat Bozumbayev instructed.
