The Ukrainian ethnos in Kazakhstan is one of the largest. The history of Ukrainians in Kazakhstan dates back to the end of the XVIII century, when in 1768 participants of the Gaidamat national liberation movement in Right Bank Ukraine against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Russian Empire, known in history as "Kolyivshchyna", were exiled here. Later, after the destruction of Zaporozhskaya Sich in 1775, Cossacks were also sent to Kazakhstan to protect new lands. A significant number of Ukrainians were relocated to Kazakhstan in 1939-1940 as a result of deportation from Western Ukraine. During the Second World War, a considerable number of factories were evacuated from Ukraine, along with tens of thousands of specialists, who later stayed in Kazakhstan for permanent residence.

In general, the history of migration of the Ukrainian ethnos can be divided into four periods: the first one is 1930-1931, when the process of forced eviction of the so-called "kulak peasants" took place in the times of total collectivization. The second is the "enemies of the people", who were repressed and convicted in 30 years for different terms and served their sentences in different camps of the Gulag and were sent to the Kazakh steppes for settlement. During this period, a large number of intellectuals turned out to be among the migrants.

The third period is the time of resettlement of the so-called "enemies of the people", who were convicted after the accession of Western Ukraine to the USSR during the Second World War. Basically, they were members of the national liberation movement in Western Ukraine, who either served their sentences in Karlaga and were left in Kazakhstan, or were sent here from other camps for settlement.

The fourth period - the youth of the 50-60s, who arrived in Kazakhstan on their own will or at the invitation of the development of virgin lands, as well as the construction of mining and industrial giants. In development of virgin lands took part more than 300 thousand representatives of the Ukrainian nationality. Working collectives of a number of newly formed state farms in Kostanay and Akmola regions almost entirely consisted of Ukrainians.

At the end of the event there was an awarding ceremony for the participants of the festival - the deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the chairman of the association of legal entities "Rada of Kazakhstan's Ukrainians" Yury Timoshchenko and Ivan Kuleba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
