Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina (4th place in the WTA ranking) played her first match in the starting season, El.kz reports citing Sports.kz.
Rybakina took the court in the 1/16 finals of the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane (Australia). The rival of the Kazakh athlete was a local athlete Olivia Gadeki (124th place). As a result, Rybakina won in two sets – 6:4, 6:1. The meeting lasted 1 hour and 12 minutes.
At the next stage, Elena Rybakina's opponent will be the winner of the pair Elise Mertens (30) and Sloane Stevens (44).
"It's the first time I've had such a short pre-season. I There have been a lot of ups and downs in the last six months, but I'm just happy that I managed to win. Hopefully I will play a lot of matches this week," Rybakina said in an interview with the Brisbane International press office on the court after the match.
