Egypt reaffirms its support for Kazakhstan’s interfaith dialogue initiatives
The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Egypt Askar Zhengis held a meeting with Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb,El.kz cites Kazakh FM.
During the meeting Ambassador referred to the invitation letter by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to attend the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which will be held on September, 2025 in Astana, which was presented to him on February 19 this year, within the framework of an international conference in Manama, capital of Bahrain.
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar expressed his appreciation with great respect to the Head of the Kazakhstan for the invitation and to the Congress on the theme “Dialogue of Religions: Synergy for the Future”. He drew attention to the important role of our country in promoting and strengthening global interreligious dialogue. He also reiterated his readiness to continue joint development of cooperation in the field of theological education.
Ambassador Zhengis noted that Kazakhstan conveys its great respect to Al-Azhar University, which is one of the main centers of education, science and spirituality in the Islamic world, as well as promoting mutual understanding and tolerant attitude towards each other on the part of representatives of different religions. After that, he expressed gratitude to the Grand Imam’s personal contribution to strengthening interfaith dialogue and supporting the ideas of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to hold joint protocol arrangements to organize the visit of the Egyptian delegation headed by Sheikh A. El-Tayeb to Astana to attend the VIII Congress.
