Delegation from Food and Agriculture Organization of UN assesses state of veterinary service of Kazakhstan

Representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) paid a working visit to Kazakhstan as part of a technical mission to combat brucellosis and strengthen veterinary control, El.kz reports.
From 10 to 14 March, leading experts from the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, Dr Daniel Beltrán-Alcrudo and Dr Chemo Blasco, took part in key events aimed at improving the brucellosis control strategy.
During the meeting with the leadership of the Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the current state of the veterinary service, existing programs to combat brucellosis and prospects for further cooperation were discussed.
FAO experts held a series of meetings with representatives of veterinary services at various levels, scientific institutes and manufacturers of veterinary drugs. The topic of discussion was the assessment of the effectiveness of existing methods of combating brucellosis and the analysis of the epizootic situation in the country. Particular attention was paid to the exchange of international best practices in the field of veterinary surveillance.
During the visit, the delegation visited laboratories in the Akmola region and the republican veterinary laboratory in Astana, where they got acquainted with the methods of diagnosing brucellosis and the level of equipment of laboratory institutions.
In addition, in the regions, experts met with local farmers and specialists of veterinary services. The issues of early detection of diseases, preventive measures, as well as the prospects for digitalization of veterinary processes, which can increase the efficiency of monitoring and control of infectious diseases among farm animals, were discussed.
