Igor Rogov, Chairman of Commission on Human Rights under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, spoke at the international scientific and practical conference on the integration of international legal norms in the field of human rights into national legislation, El.kz reports.
The conference, held on December 7, 2023, brought together leading experts in the field of human rights and representatives of international organizations. The main purpose of the conference is to discuss key aspects of the integration of international human rights standards into national legislation, in the context of supporting the UN global initiative "Human Rights 75".
Igor Rogov focused on the importance of strengthening human rights mechanisms and developing human rights institutions, and also emphasized the significant contribution of Kazakhstan to the implementation of the norms of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He expressed support for the further development of national legislation in line with international standards.
This year's International Human Rights Day coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Paris Principles, which set the standards for education and the work of national human rights institutions. This provides a unique opportunity to recall the importance of measures to ensure the credibility and preservation of NHRIs at the national, regional and international levels.
Last year, a large-scale constitutional reform was carried out in the country. An important result has been the strengthening of human rights institutions.
The Venice Commission for Democracy through Law, as an internationally recognized independent forum for the exchange of ideas in the constitutional and legal sphere, has made a great contribution to the constitutional reform," Igor Rogov said.
The conference also marked the 30th anniversary of the Paris Principles, which set standards for the education and performance of national human rights institutions. This has given rise to discussions on a wide range of human rights-related issues, from judicial protection to the development of global partnerships and cooperation.
The conference featured greetings and speeches by a number of key figures, including representatives of the UN, OSCE and the European Union, who stressed the importance of international cooperation in promoting human rights.
In its successful conclusion, the conference stressed the importance of continuing dialogue and cooperation between various countries and international organizations in the field of human rights.
