Zhanibek Abdrashov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Hungary, took part in the wreath-laying ceremony on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the Victory in World War Two (the Great Patriotic War), which was held at the memorials of Soviet soldiers-liberators at the Liberty Square (Szabadság tér) and at the Central Cemetery of the Hungarian capital (Kerepesi),El.kz cites MFA.

It should be noted that the monument to Soviet soldiers-liberators was erected in the center of Budapest at the Liberty Square in 1945 after the end of the Great Patriotic War.

In 1944-1945, two large-scale military operations took place in Hungary at the same time: the Balaton Defense Operation and the Budapest Offensive Operation.

Today in Hungary there are 1032 known graves from the Second World War. A total of 112 625 people are buried in them. More than 140 thousand Soviet soldiers and officers died on the territory of modern Hungary.

The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan carries out military memorial activities in Hungary on a constant basis, including the search for burial places of soldiers of Kazakh origin.

It should be noted that earlier on May 1 this year the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in the opening ceremony of the restored monument in the city of Paks, where the Soviet soldiers who died in the Great Patriotic War are also buried.
