A drug developed in Kazakhstan for the treatment of oncology has successfully passed the first stage of clinical trials on humans, Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek said during a briefing for journalists following a government meeting, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Government of Kazakhstan.

15 cancer patients took part in the study.

"On July 1, the second stage of testing began. About 3 thousand people will take part in clinical trials. In total, over 5 thousand cancer patients expressed a desire and signed up.

By the end of the year, we will process all the data. We hope that next year we will launch the drug for registration," said Sayasat Nurbek.

According to the results of the first stage of clinical trials, where patients with stage IV colon cancer, one of the most aggressive forms of oncology, participated as volunteers, the drug showed effectiveness. Tumor formations decreased by an average of 30%.

The second stage involves testing the drug on people with different types of cancer. Tests will be carried out in Astana, Almaty and Pavlodar.

Earlier, during his visit to Nazarbayev University, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov got acquainted with the developments of young scientists, including the research team of the National Laboratory Astana. The creation of an effective treatment for cancer is one of the most ambitious projects of specialists.
