Astana hosted a high-level meeting dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and the 25th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 "Women, Peace and Security". These are key international documents aimed at expanding women's rights and ensuring gender equality, El.kz reports citing the press service of Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Information.

Heads of State of Central Asia, Deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Daniya Yespayeva, Chair of the Constitutional Court Elvira Azimova, Regional Director for UN Women Europe and Central Asia Belén Sanz Luque, representatives of civil society attended the event.

In her welcoming speech, Minister of Culture and Information, chair of the National Commission for Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva stressed that since joining the Beijing Declaration in 1995, Kazakhstan has taken a confident course towards the formation of a sustainable gender policy, successfully combining national and international priorities

"This process, first of all, is based on a well-built system of institutional mechanisms. A large-scale constitutional reform initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in 2022 restored the Constitutional Court and approved the institution of the Commissioner for Human Rights. I emphasize the importance of these changes, as the strengthening of human rights institutions creates more reliable conditions for the promotion and protection of gender equality," said Aida Balaeva.

For the same purpose, the National Commission for Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan operates in Kazakhstan. In addition, the Institute of Advisers to the Heads of Regions on Gender Issues was established by the Decree of the Head of State in 2023. At the same time, the key state body responsible for the formation and implementation of gender policy in Kazakhstan is the Ministry of Culture and Information, which includes a specialized committee.

The Regional Director of the UN Women Office for Europe and Central Asia, Belén Sanz Luque, praised the gender policy of Kazakhstan and the Central Asian countries. She noted the positive dynamics and expressed confidence that the goals of the Beijing Declaration will be fully achieved throughout the world.

"I am truly proud of what you have been able to achieve for women in your countries. We will work to ensure that all women have freedom, opportunities and rights. We see and highly appreciate the progress achieved within the framework of the agreements agreed at the intergovernmental level," Belén Sanz Luque said.

The Beijing Declaration was adopted at the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995. The document outlines strategic actions to empower women and girls in 12 critical areas of concern and outlines ways to address them.

Resolution 1325 "Women, Peace and Security" was adopted in 2000 for the effective participation of women in decision-making related to peace and security.
