It is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the outstanding composer, People’s Artist of USSR, laureate of the State Prize of Kazakh SSR Sydyq Mukhamedzhanov. The author of the idea of the musical evening is Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan, soprano Galiya Baigazinova. Together with her colleagues, Astana Opera’s soloists and guest artists, she will present both popular and rarely performed works of the composer.
Sydyq Mukhamedzhanov’s creative work occupies a special place in Astana Opera’s repertoire. Last November, in honour of the celebrated composer’s centenary, his comic opera Aisulu premiered with great success at the opera house’s Grand Hall, receiving high praise from critics and viewers. Events dedicated to the anniversary date continue at the capital’s opera house this year.
“Sydyq Mukhamedzhanov’s works, who left an indelible mark on the history of Kazakh culture, will always be relevant and in demand, because his music intertwines traditions, guidance and mentoring. His songs captivate with deep lyricism and melodiousness. I first became acquainted with this talented composer’s music when I was studying at the conservatory. Since then, his songs and art songs have not left my repertoire: I continue to perform them at recitals and always strive to present to the audience new works that I have not performed yet. It is safe to say that Sydyq Mukhamedzhanov’s creative work occupies a special place in my heart,” Galiya Baigazinova, Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan, shared her thoughts.
The author of the idea, Galiya Baigazinova, said that she had been preparing for the concert for a long time, searching for the composer’s little-known and unpublished works.
“The idea to dedicate an evening to Sydyq Mukhamedzhanov’s centenary and thus paying tribute to his memory has lived in my soul for a long time. The name of the concert Anmen Orilgen Ghasyr has a deep symbolic meaning, because his music has been performed for many decades. At this anniversary concert, I wanted to present songs that have never been performed before. I plan to introduce listeners who are not yet familiar with his compositions, to his wonderful works, including the Qobyz Concerto,” the singer added.
Famous musicians left feedback about Sydyq Mukhamedzhanov. It is enough to remember what the celebrated Gaziza Zhubanova said about him: “We are all just composers. Sydyq alone is a composer by the grace of God.”
It is worth noting that this evening, along with Galiya Baigazinova, her colleagues, opera company soloists, international competitions laureates Dinmukhamed Koshkinbayev and Talgat Allabirinov will take the Chamber Hall stage, as well as the Astana Opera Choir under the direction of Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Dautov. In addition, international competitions laureate, soprano Zhuldyz Naken, will perform as part of the evening. The opera house’s accompanists Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Raushan Beskembirova and Aishabibi Askarova will perform the piano part.
The rich concert program includes Sydyq Mukhamedzhanov’s works to Abai Qunanbaiuly’s lyrics: “Qulaqtan Kirip Boidy Alar”, “Zharq Yetpes Qara Konilim Ne Qylsa da”, “Ozgege, Konilim, Toyarsyn”, and also art songs to Saken Seifullin’s lyrics: “Boztorghai”, “Zhazghy Tannan Beri”, “Qarqaraly”. The highlight of the evening will be arrangements of Segiz Seri’s song “Aiken-ai” and of George Byron’s work.
