In the period from January to December 2023, the revenues of Kazakh taxi increased by 17% compared to the previous year, reaching 5.9 billion tenge, El.kz reports. with reference to Energyprom.

During the same year, about 47.4 million people used taxi services, which is 2% less than in the previous year. Total passenger taxi traffic decreased by 44%, amounting to 1.4 billion passenger-kilometers.

In the period from January to November of the previous year, the volume of investments in fixed assets in the taxi sector in Kazakhstan amounted to 751.9 million tenge, which is 51.8% more compared to 495.1 million tenge in the same period of the previous year.

The largest volume of investments was recorded in Almaty, reaching 360.6 million tenge, which is 6.9 times more than in the previous year. This amount accounted for 48% of the total investment in the country.

The Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan is developing a new tax regime for taxi drivers. In accordance with the new requirements, taxi drivers will have to register with the tax authorities in person or through a mobile application by submitting an application for registration as an individual entrepreneur. All the necessary conditions for this have been created. In addition, the option of exempting drivers from paying taxes is being discussed, shifting this obligation to taxi operators.

In December 2023, taxi fares increased by 9.1% compared to December of the previous year.

In the regional context, the strongest increase in prices was felt by residents of Almaty: by 30.3% over the year. Aktobe and Abay regions were on the second and third lines of anti-leadership: by 22.1% and 17%, respectively.

The smallest annual increase in the cost of taxi services was recorded in the Mangistau region: by 1.2%. In three more regions – Almaty, East Kazakhstan and West Kazakhstan – prices remained at the same level as a year earlier.

As of January 15 this year, data from Numbeo shows that the highest taxi fares per kilometer at the standard rate were observed in Switzerland ($4.63), Luxembourg ($3.29) and Kuwait ($3.25).

Among the CIS countries, Kazakhstan had the highest cost of taxi services, equal to $0.61 per kilometer. In Azerbaijan, the taxi fare was $0.59 per kilometer, in Russia – $0.34, in Ukraine – $0.32, in Belarus – $0.31, and in Armenia and Uzbekistan – $0.3 per kilometer.
