Akim of Shymkent reports to Tokayev on how region developed in 2023

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Shymkent Akim Gabit Syzdykbekov to discuss the results of the city's socio-economic development in 2023 and outline tasks for the future, El.kz reports.

Akim presented a report in which he highlighted a number of significant achievements. The volume of investments in fixed assets increased by 26%, reaching 724.3 bln tenge. Industrial production also showed steady growth, amounting to more than 1 bln 51 mln tenge. The construction industry of the city is dynamically developing, which is reflected in the commissioning of more than 1 mln square meters of new housing.

Support for SMEs has become an important area of work. At the moment, more than 128 thousand SMEs operate in the city, which is 16.4% more than in the previous year. 3,498 projects were supported for a total of 19.8 bln tenge, which contributes to the further development of entrepreneurial activity in the region.

Shymkent is also actively working on infrastructure projects. A pool of investment projects has been developed to bring infrastructure to five production zones with a total area of 867 hectares.

Educational and cultural initiatives have also been developed. Work is underway on the construction of 18 new educational institutions provided for by the national project "Comfortable School". Last year, the Palace of Schoolchildren, the Creative Center for Children and extensions to three schools were put into operation.

The city of Shymkent is actively introducing modern technologies to ensure the safety of citizens. Over the past year, 233 km of traffic cameras have been installed and about 1,000 streets have been illuminated, which has contributed to a 33% reduction in the crime rate.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed satisfaction with the results, but also put forward specific tasks to further diversify the city's economy, attract additional investment and support SMEs.
