On November 14, the meeting of the ministers of ecology and environment of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) took place in the pavilion of the Republic of Uzbekistan, El.kz news agency reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Our meeting marks an important step towards strengthening cooperation and joining efforts in the fight against environmental challenges facing the OTS region," Minister Yerlan Nysanbaev said.

He stressed the importance of efforts to address environmental issues at the regional level, paying special attention to the problem of availability and quality of water resources, the implementation of climate initiatives, the conservation of biodiversity, in particular rare and endangered species, and more.

During the event, the parties exchanged views on combating the environmental challenges facing the OTS region and reaffirmed the importance of regular meetings to discuss joint actions and areas of cooperation within the OTS.

Declaration was signed aimed at strengthening cooperation on environmental issues, including the development of long-term and short-term strategies and policies of the Turkic states in the field of ecology, biodiversity and climate change, as well as the exchange of information, experience and best practices on the effective management of protected areas.

The parties also expressed their intention to establish a Working Group at the expert level to support the implementation of the decisions specified in the Declaration.

The next meeting of ministers of the OTS countries is planned to be held in Kazakhstan in 2025.
