Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was presented with a project of a new combined heat and power plant in Kyzylorda city, El.kz cites the Akorda press service.

Last year, the Energy Ministry and Turkiye's Aksa Enerji Uretim AS signed an agreement to construct a combined-cycle plant in the region’s center with a capacity of 240MW of electricity and 277Ggal of thermal energy per hour. The project’s planned cost is KZT214bn.

According to the region’s governor, preparation for the construction is in full swing. The new combined heat and power plant set to be completed by the end of 2025 will enable to fully meet the demands of locals in heat and electricity, as well as supply surplus of electricity to other regions.

The wear and tear of the city’s existing thermal power plant built in 1964 is 90%. Half of the city’s heating systems which span 207.7km need to be upgraded.

While familiarizing with the project, Tokayev noted its important to enhance the country’s energy security. The Kazakh Head of State instructed the government and the city’s administration to ensure the plant is commissioned in a timely manner.
