Tokayev meets Financial Monitoring Agency Chairman

Kazakh Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokaeyv received Chairman of the Financial Monitoring Agency Zhanat Elimanov, El.kz reports citing Akorda. 

Tokayev heard a report on the results of the Agency’s work in the nine months of the year and plans for the upcoming period.

The President was informed that assets worth KZT217bn were returned to the State as well as there was a 18.7% reduction in the shadow economy in the reporting period.

Elimanov briefed that 229 analytical materials were handed over to the law enforcement bodies and that the practice of blocking financial operations of drug dealers, getting citizens, especially the youth, off online shopping, was established.

The President was informed that for the first time, illegal proceeds in cryptocurrency to the tune of KZT47mln was seized and placed in the special account of the Agency on the crypto exchange Binance. In addition, 976 attempts of transferring funds to the accounts of terrorist and extremist organizations were identified and blocked.

Suggestions were made on the decriminalization of some economic offences to greater protect entrepreneurial entities.

The Kazakh Head of State gave a number of concrete instructions on the key areas of the Agency’s work. The President noted the importance of strengthening of measures to protect fair businesses and countering financial and economic offences.
