Tokayev holds talks with Charles Michel

During the meeting, the parties discussed in detail the issues of energy and food security, the development of the "green" economy, transport and logistics.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with President of the European Council Charles Michel, El.kz reports with reference to Akorda.

Welcoming Charles Michel, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed that the development of strategic partnership with the European Union has always been one of the main foreign policy priorities of Kazakhstan.

"Your visit provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate significant achievements across the entire spectrum of partnership between Kazakhstan and the European Union. Next year we will celebrate a significant date – the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. We consider your official visit to Kazakhstan as another evidence of mutual interest in bringing our relations to a new level," the President of Kazakhstan said.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed that Kazakhstan became the first and only country in Central Asia to sign an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the European Union. The Head of State believes that regular high-level contacts strengthen the opportunities for the development of a comprehensive dialogue between Kazakhstan and the EU.

President of the European Council Charles Michel thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for his hospitality and noted the dynamic development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU.

"We met for the first time in Brussels, and since then we have maintained close contacts and work in various fields. I note the importance of joint work at the regional level. I am glad to to discuss topical issues of our cooperation, including those related to climate change," Charles Michel said.

During the meeting, the parties discussed in detail the issues of energy and food security, the development of the "green" economy, transport and logistics. The leaders exchanged views on the development of cooperation in the format of Central Asia - the European Union.
