The suspension of train traffic was introduced on July 2.

At the Chinese-Kazakh border crossings Alashankou and Khorgos, the movement of transshipment trains was suspended, with the exception of freight trains on the China-Europe route, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of KTZ.

The restriction was introduced on July 2, it will be valid at least until July 9. The reason was called congestion on the Chinese-Kazakh border. According to New Silk Road Intermodal CEO Jackie Yang, the suspension will be extended after July 9, but this will not affect the departure of trains with a fixed interval.

"Since May, more than 25,000 imported containers have been stacked on the border with Kazakhstan, while the capacity is only 50 containers per day. Missing containers occupy tracks and wagons, and this affects the turnover of wagons," Jackie Yang, CEO of New Silk Road Intermodal explained.

A temporary stop to transship or even pass the border is not unusual, but in almost all cases excludes traffic between China and Europe, KTZ said in a statement.
