Prospects of cooperation between Kazakhstan and UN discussed in New York

Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN headquarters in New York, El.kz cites MFA.

During the meeting, the parties discussed topical issues of the international agenda, which are in the focus of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, as well as the UN activities in Kazakhstan and the region, including within the framework of the initiative to establish the UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development in Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty.

The Kazakh Foreign Minister reaffirmed the commitment of our country to the fundamental goals and principles of the UN Charter and assured the UN Secretary General of full support for the activities of the world organization for the sake of universal peace and prosperity.

Minister Nurtleu also informed about the priorities of Kazakhstan's foreign policy and the socio-economic and political reforms carried out in our country, in particular, those voiced by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his last State of the Nation Address in September 2024.

The UN Secretary-General noted the high level of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the global Organization, which is developing in a strategic way. He highly appreciated Kazakhstan's contribution to strengthening peace and security, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring human rights.

For us Kazakhstan is a privileged partner, a pillar of multilateralism, a conductor of dialogue between cultures, religions and civilizations. Your country, as a fundamental pillar of Central Asia, is a bridge between East and West,” Guterres said.

I would like to express my gratitude to your country for its continued support to UN initiatives, in particular for promoting the establishment of the UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development in Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty, which I visited in person as part of my participation in the SCO Summit in July 2024,” the UN Secretary General stressed.
