Prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan and International Telecommunication Union Discussed in Geneva

Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the WTO and international economic organizations Zhanar Aitzhan met with Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Doreen Bogdan-Martin, El.kz cites MFA.

During the meeting, Aitzhan congratulated Bogdan-Martin on her election to the post of ITU Secretary-General. Bogdan-Martin is the first woman to head the ITU, which was established in 1865 to assist the countries in the field of communications and is the leading international organization in the field of information and communication technologies.

The Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the WTO expressed Kazakhstan's interest in strengthening cooperation with the ITU. In particular, Kazakhstan is interested in participating in the project for the development of digital government strategies using the “Govstack” modular approach. This project is designed to help countries adapt and simplify the technical approach to creating a unified digital government and thereby improve the quality of services provided to the population.

During the meeting, the Permanent Representative also noted the participation of Kazakhstan in the joint global initiative of ITU and UNICEF to connect every school to the Internet by 2030. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural education.

The parties also discussed the possibility of cooperation between Kazakhstan and ITU in such projects as “Women in Tech” and “Women Entrepreneurs”. The Secretary-General noted that ITU is supporting the International Trade Center in the implementation of the regional project “Ready4Trade Central Asia”, in particular, as part of the implementation of the component to increase the participation of women in e-commerce in Kazakhstan.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen further cooperation in the framework of the implementation of joint initiatives and projects in Kazakhstan.
