Annually in Kazakhstan about a billion tons of waste are generated, but only 11% of the total volume is recycled, which is seven times lower than the level of developed countries, El.kz reports.
At today's government meeting Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov drew attention to the low level of recycling and stressed the need to introduce digital tools in the field of waste control and management. He noted that in countries with developed economies, up to 80% of waste is recycled, while in Kazakhstan the figure does not exceed 11%.
"We need to build a transparent, manageable system. It should be digitized and include tools for monitoring, accounting and reusing waste. Only in this way will we be able to move to an effective model of waste management," Bektenov said.
The Prime Minister instructed the Ecology, Industry, Energy and Digital Department ministries to develop a digital platform as soon as possible that will provide comprehensive monitoring of the processes of storage, processing and disposal of both municipal and industrial wastes.
The Prime Minister also noted that some domestic mining enterprises have already begun to use waste to produce about 30 types of products - from building materials to fertilizers. This experience can be the starting point for a large-scale transformation of the waste processing industry in Kazakhstan.
