NURLAN NIGMATULIN TO PARTICIPATE IN THE INTER-PARLIAMENTARY UNION ASSEMBLY IN QATAR

Chairman of the Mazhilis, Nurlan Nigmatulin, will participate in the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which will be held in Doha, Qatar, from 6 to 9 April.

N. Nigmatulin is scheduled to address the plenary Assembly on the role of parliaments in improving education for peace, security and the rule of law. The outcome of the Assembly will be a parliamentary contribution to the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, which is scheduled to be held in July this year. The Speaker's Programme will hold a number of bilateral meetings, including with the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Gabriela Cuevas Barron, and the Head of the Advisory Council of Qatar, Ahmad bin Abdullah bin Zayed Al Mahmoud. It is expected that N. Nigmatulin will discuss the issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation with his colleagues from Belgium, Vietnam, China, Russia, Turkey and other countries. The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) was founded in 1889 to coordinate the activities of the world's parliaments. The Parliament of Kazakhstan was admitted as a member of the IPU in 1993. Currently, the IPU brings together 178 countries and 12 regional inter-parliamentary organizations.
