Number of cyberattacks in Kazakhstan more than halved in 2023 - analysts

For the period from January to September 2023, 18.5 thousand cybersecurity incidents were registered in Kazakhstan, which is 56.2% more than last year, El.kz reports, citing Energyprom.kz.

Over the same time period in 2022, there was a 21.9% decrease in the number of cyberattacks compared to the previous year, adding up to 11.8 thousand incidents.

In 2023, the bulk of cyber threats were cases of computers viruses, computer worms and Trojans: three thousand such events were recorded, which shows an increase of 71.2% year-on-year.

A significant number of other types of cyber incidents were also recorded, including botnet attacks (3,000 cases), problems with access to Internet resources (813 cases), phishing attacks (628 cases), unauthorized access to and modification of website content (317 cases), and denial-of-service attacks (118 cases).
