Scientific and practical conference was held in Astana in honor of the National Book Day. The event was organized by the centralized library system, El.kz reports citing the Astana mayor’s office.
The conference brought together librarians, poets, writers, students and regular attendees of libraries.
The participants discussed the key areas of development of librarianship.
They shared their experience, raised important issues related to the modernization of libraries, the introduction of new technologies and the creation of a comfortable environment for readers.
The meeting focused on such topics as the impact of artificial intelligence on society, the development of human resources and current global trends in the library field.
"The main goal of this scientific conference is to bring together in one place people who are not indifferent to books, to raise issues related to the development of book culture, and to find new ways to popularize it. Today's task is to share thoughts with readers in this direction.
The conference was attended by the heads of the largest libraries of our city. In particular, the heads of the National Academic Library and the library of Nazarbayev University specially arrived. It is important to note that not only librarians have gathered here, but also those who sincerely love and appreciate the book," director of the centralized library system of the capital city Gulbadan Madibayeva said.
During the event, the achievements of Astana libraries over the past 3-4 years were also touched upon.
"This year we are acquiring 3 more new buildings. A few years ago, when technology began to develop rapidly, interest in reading paper books noticeably decreased – this should be admitted honestly. However, in recent years, there has been a steady increase in interest in reading. A circle of regular readers has been formed in our libraries. It is important to note that all services in our libraries are completely free, including Wi-Fi access. Many come in the morning and stay until closing - they spend time reading, studying and just in a cozy, inspiring atmosphere," Gulbadan Madibayevaadded.
