The Ministry of Enlightenment has initiated the introduction of kids SIM cards to improve the digital safety of children, El.kz reports citing the press service of the ministry.
Vice Minister of Enlightenment Yedil Ospan focused on the issues of digital safety of children. As part of the implementation of the 2023 Comprehensive Plan for the Protection of Children from Violence, Suicide Prevention and Ensuring Their Rights and Well-Being for 2023-2025, the Ministry of Enlightenment initiated the introduction of a kids SIM card to improve the digital safety of children. This is a special mobile data plan that is designed to improve the safety and control of children's mobile device use.
Kids SIM cards have several benefits, such as parental controls, security and protection from inappropriate content, and tracking the child's location.
"International experience shows that kids SIM cards are actively supported by telecom operators and are accompanied by government initiatives in the field of digital security, which allows parents to effectively control the use of phones by children. In Kazakhstan, operators offer tariffs that are limited to access to educational resources, but do not provide full control over the safe behavior of children on the Internet. The initiative proposed by the ministry will expand the ability to monitor the safety of children online and provide parents with a higher level of protection for their children in the digital space," said Yedil Ospan.
It is worth noting that Kazakhstan has already begun work on amendments and additions to the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Protection of Children from Information Harmful to Their Health and Development" to strengthen children's safety measures on the Internet.
