The delegation of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (INP) headed by Director General Sayabek Sakhiyev visited the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva with the support of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva. Before the CERN visit, Sayabek Sakhiyev had a meeting with Valery Nesvizhevsky, a permanent employee of the European Center for Neutron Research Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL, France), El.kz cites MFA.

During the meeting with the CERN Director for International Relations, Charlotte Warakaulle, the reforms implemented by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, focusing on the comprehensive development of science in Kazakhstan were highly appreciated. Charlotte Warakaulle noted the consistent steps of the Kazakhstan Leader, such as the division of the Ministry of Science and Education into two separate bodies, the reestablishment of the National Academy of Sciences in state status, the multiple increase in funding for science over the past few years and expressed hope that these steps would elevate scientific potential of Kazakhstan to a new level.

During the visit, the delegation had an opportunity to observe the work carried out in the laboratory of the RD51 and DRD1 collaborations and visited the CERN Control Center. Discussions during the visit to the experimental zone NA62 centered around the active participation of Kazakhstani colleagues in NA62 data taking, as outlined in the Addendum to the Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2023 between CERN, NA62, and INP. The CMS collaboration spokesperson, Patricia McBride, introduced the members of the INP delegation with the work of general-purpose detector CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.

Sayabek Sakhiyev expressed gratitude to his European colleagues and highlighted Kazakhstan's active involvement in various international scientific collaborations, including CERN. During the visit, the INP Head presented an invitation from the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan to CERN Director General, Fabiola Gianotti, inviting her to visit Kazakhstan.
