As part of Kazakhstan's initiative to achieve sovereign equality in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to international organizations in Vienna Alibek Bakayev met with the heads of diplomatic missions of 13 IAEA member states (Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Brunei Darussalam, Guyana, Samoa, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Fiji) accredited in Geneva and not included in the Agency's regional groups, El.kz cites MFA.

During the conversation, the Kazakh diplomat informed his Geneva-based colleagues about the measures taken by Kazakhstan to allocate the so-called “homeless” member states of the IAEA to the respective regional groups, which will eventually allow countries to be nominated to the Board of Governors and the Bureau of the General Conference of the IAEA. He also shared plans to submit a resolution to the upcoming 67th session of the General Conference and called on them to co-sponsor the document.

In turn, the heads of these diplomatic missions noted the timeliness of the Kazakhstan’s initiative and expressed their readiness to coordinate joint efforts to solve this problem.
