Kazakhstan to receive 11 bln m³ of water by beginning of 2025 irrigation season

By April 2025, Kazakhstan will receive about 11 bln of water in the Shardara Reservoir thanks to cooperation with the countries of Central Asia,El.kz reports citing Kazakh Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.

The agreement was reached by the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Nurzhigitov during the 87th meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC) held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Representatives of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Kyrgyzstan also attended the event .

The meeting participants approved forecast schedules of reservoir operation modes in the Syr Darya and Amu Darya rivers and distributed water supply limits for the countries of the region for the autumn-winter period 2024–2025

Minister Nurzhigitov noted the importance of joint work: "This year we have ensured the efficient distribution of water in the Syr Darya River basin. I would also like to thank all the participants for productive cooperation following the results of the 86th meeting, especially in the context of the agreements with Kyrgyzstan and the coordination of the operation of the Bahri Tojik reservoir in the current irrigation period."

The next ICWC meeting will be held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, in the first quarter of 2025.
