Kazakhstan intends to open WHO Center for Elimination of Tuberculosis

Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova held a meeting with Mr. Robb Butler, director of Division of Communicable Diseases, Environment, and Health in WHO Regional Office for Europe, El.kz news agency reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Health.

The parties discussed the opening of the WHO Center of Best Practices for elimination the TB Epidemic in Kazakhstan.

The head of the department expressed confidence that Kazakhstan will become the best platform for opening the Center, contributing to further strengthening of determination in the elimination of tuberculosis, exchange of experience between countries, dialogue and coordination of activities not only in Central Asia, but also in the WHO European Region.

Noting Kazakhstan's achievements in key areas of health, Mr Robb Butler expressed his readiness to support country-led initiatives to address environmental issues in the Aral Sea region that have an impact on health outcomes.   

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen cooperation and develop strategic approaches in order to reduce the negative consequences of the impact of environmental factors on the health and well-being of citizens. We also found understanding and support in strengthening infection prevention through immunization.
